Old Feather Store is built.
1680
(ca.) [8/3/1679-BGL] Known also as the Old Cocked Hat, it is located at the corner of North Street and Market Square. Built by Thomas Stanbury for T. Staniford, it is known for its gabled roof and rough plaster walls. An apothecary shop for many years, it is subsequently owned by Dr. John Greenleaf, whose eldest children are the victims of Boston’s first multiple murder. Pomeroy and Simpson open a feather shop there in 1806. A longtime Boston landmark, the building is torn down when the street is widened in 1860.
